Mentally Taxing
Tuesday 28 June 2011

The things I do instead of studying =\
But I guess it's okay, considering I had 2 exams today which requires alot of mental usage. Physics and Maths, they are mentally demanding.
I feel like I'm overclocking my brain sometimes.
Having a minor headache now argh.
Both papers were okay, they were balanced in their difficulty somewhat. I have a feeling Maths Paper 2 will be super hard since Paper 1 was moderate.

I aM mE!
Great dance crew focusing more of "visuals". Was browsing through some of their videos and chanced upon the finals. Was simply amazing! Especially the part somewhere around 2:34 where there was a shadow.

Hmm ok Chemistry Paper 3 was really unexpected.
When I looked at the clock and there's only one hour left, I was like "Oh shit!" cause I realised I hardly accomplished anything.
Left alot of blanks so I increased the pace.
I realised I wasted alot of time on the part (a)s for every question when the part (b)s were relatively easy.
Nice try Chemistry Department, that almost killed me.
I hope the other papers are not this hard cause it is really demoralising argh.

Latest news. BMT NSmen are to receive iPads which supposedly are to help in training. I can't really figure out how iPads will accomplish this goal though. The news source I read did not went into further elaboration. I can imagine the commander saying "Alright guys, take out your iPads and launch the Angry Birds app. We are going to study projectile motion!".
Kind of interested as to what reasons they would give to justify the act that iPads will aid in training. Furthermore, aren't cameras not allowed in camps? Are they going to disable the cameras in iPads or something?

Now the sky could be blue, I don't mind
Without you it's a waste of time

MYE
Sunday 26 June 2011

So Mid Years will commence tomorrow...
I'm not going to worry about how well I'm going to do.
I guess I more or less tried my best in studying.
The rest is all up to Him who shall provide.

Had the so called customary overnight study we will always have every school holiday.
This overnight was kind of late though. Furthermore it's only partial heh.
I got some reasonable amount of sleep then can reset my body clock conform to the usual school routine.
I think I just found out that the less sleep you have, the more epic your dreams will be.
I remember vaugely dozing in and out of sleep while Justin and Zhi were making alot of noise and studying.
Made some makeshift earplugs and was able to sleep.
Dreamt that I was like in some kind of a game like Mirror's Edge and Half-Life (great games of all time) where you have to solve puzzles. I was chasing some guy around some place? Can't remember. Also dreamt something unlikely such as Yew Tee Point having a sports shop selling skates and a LAN shop.
Did some epic timelapse of studying too and when I reviewed it, it was kinda funny because of all the random stuff that was happening.

Heh finally found out the meaning of the song by The Killers "Human". I used to hate the song cause it didn't make sense to me.

Are we human (having the freedom of free-will), or are we dancers? (adhering to a dance routine/choreography)

I see more and more diasters happening such as typhoons in S.Korea and more earthquakes hitting Asia such as China and Indonesia. Does give some food for thought on the significance of these events..

Beyond Love Beyond
Saturday 25 June 2011

Woo great to be back in DI after three weeks!
Great to see the familiar faces that I use to see every week.
Had presentations of the Love Beyond movement and had an insight on what the other groups have done.
Andy wrote a new song especially for Love Beyond too and it was great.
Love Beyond doesn't just end after June, this gives me alot to think about. Reflected upon the month of June, what I could have did differently and what I'm going to change after June to apply what I have learnt during Love Beyond.

So, mid year exams are coming soon. I feel pretty calm but I can't say how prepared I am. I guess I will find out during the examination itself. I think it's great to not feel anxious and panicked for the exam or being too overconfident.

Argh have to go soon to Justin's house. Some partial overnight study. I strongly oppose overnight studies but meh, it doesn't hurt once in awhile.

Great video from Vi Hart, a mathemusician! Her videos on mathematics are great!! I feel I learnt more about mathematics then what JC could teach me. This video took me awhile to realise what happened. I kinda cheated by viewing the inverse of the video though argh.

Found love beyond all reason

time out!
Sunday 19 June 2011

I wish I could just stop time, so I can enjoy more of this study break or 'holiday'. This year is ending way too fast. I still can remember how I dreaded the first school day of 2011, a year into a new class, against my will. Sometimes it's just great to slack around enjoying the so called 'holidays' but I know I can't, for there's the A-levels. Much like the calm before the storm.

Studied in Justin's house after church today. This is something new, studying with Kairos + other people. But those not having major exams are jamming in the next room, which is kinda tempting cause I haven't touch the guitar since.....3.141592654 months (exaggerated). I don't know why I bother memorising the square roots, Pi, exp etc. I guess it can help me identify them faster when the calculator shows a string of numbers hmm.

Made some white mocha today! Insipred by Le Fa and Starbucks' White Mocha Frap. Made with Nescafe Gold and Cadbury White Choc. Tastes good! But I think I added too much chocolate.

Let us run, let us run
with perseverance the race not done,

medical checkup?
Saturday 18 June 2011

16th June 2010
Went for NS medical checkup at Depot Road!
Which is near Redhill.
Checkup went quite well, was less painful than I expected?
Alot of people said the blood test thing was painful, and that you should look for the older guy to do it cause it's less painful.
Well, I ended up with the young guy and while I sat down I could feel my heart rate like increasing really fast. Meh my fear of needles. I think there's a scientific term for it.
*wikipedia*
Trypanophobia - the fear of medical procedures involving injections
The guy was really good. He asked if I want to be distracted with him talking and I said no.
Felt no pain at all when the needle went in but I could feel the unmistakable feeling of a needle in my arm. I wonder if I were to make a sudden action, would it break the needle?

Thankfully Justin asked me to bring study material to the checkup, if not I would be seriously bored with nothing to do. No music or phone to keep me entertained. The survey took a good 1 hour and the questions were unconventional.

Got a PES D, which basically translates to temporary not fit. Reason: Lipids. Not really sure what that is though, something to do with fatty acids. Now this is quite uncertain. Is it lack of lipids? Excess lipids? Or requires more research to analyse lipid content?

Had what I could say one of the best chicken rice I have ever eaten in a long long while. It's at some hawker centre in Redhill Interchange. Cheap and really good food can mostly only be found in hawker centres....not like some of the rubbish food that is served in food courts like Koufu...
Saw a Gongcha shop too, heard it serves good bubble tea but eh it was closed.

Being in Redhill kind of brings back memories. Most of hockey trainings were at Delta. I like how the MRT station is painted a shade of red heh. Was curious as to why the place is called Redhill and decided to do some wikipedia research on it. Turns out there was some legend (kinda bizzare really) behind it. Then I got more curious and decided to research on the names of various places in Singapore. Yew Tee has it's name cause it used to be an oil pond (literally) and Kranji is named after....a tree?

Thought of some chemistry analogy. (Too much mugging?) Just as chemical reactions require sufficient energy for it to occur, so too must you put enough effort for something to be realised. I shall apply studying here. But that does not mean blindly studying as much as you can. Chemical reactions require molecules to have the correct orientation and energy. Hence, there has to be some sort of study plan involved which sadly I do not have one yet argh.

No Eclipse D:
Thursday 16 June 2011

Argh I'm not going to be able to see the eclipse!
Guess I have to wait for the next one....in 7 years.
Sky is rather cloudy and I have NS checkup today, but I think I can wake up in the middle of the night to expect a red sky/moon heh.
I'm unable to see any sign of the moon from my window which I usually can. Maybe it's the clouds?

Had a weird dream yesterday which come to think of it, was rather absurd...like most dreams.
Can't remember everything but I can remember the parts that stand out.
Firstly, I was in this cinema with like schoolmates? Apparently, we have to watch some movie as part of an exam. Yes, it sounds stupid and unbelievable.

Fallen sick after Day Two of Extreme Makeover. The state of the house then was really unsuitable to live afterall. Perhaps those two brothers have lived long in that enviroment for them to be immune and used to a run-down house. Day Two was surprisely short as there was just a few more areas to touch up. Was already feeling slightly sick on Day Two and felt extremely tired. Did more painting and Le Fa brought his boom box to blast music heh. It made a huge difference in getting work done! But then the uncles started to get worked up and started to 'chase' us out saying it's time for his tea break. But as soon as Le Fa lowered the volume of the boom box, eh the degree of 'worked-upness' started to decline. It was the loud music afterall heh.

The finished house was simply nice and suitable to an extent to live in. From that relative classroom scale of cleanliness, it's now a 7 out of 10. I wonder how long that state of cleanliness will last though?

I'd rather be a comma then a fullstop

EM: Day One
Monday 13 June 2011

To start off, I was definitely surprised. Then again, when I heard this was the worst house we have been assigned to, it's not that bad after all. Better to start off with the extreme then have it easy later heh.

Met up at SAC in the early morning to help transport equipment. When we were outside the house we have been assigned to, we could smell an unpleasant odour (well come to think of it, can an odour be pleasant?). It smells like...cat litter. Got a shock when I saw the house, it was really dark and really filthly. To rate it on a scale out of 10 relative to the state of a classroom, i would rate it negative two.

Before entering we started off with prayer and off we go. Moving the furniture out and armed with newspapers and the all-powerful insecticide, exterminating any insect life-form we saw. Felt so gay when our group of guys were shouting when we saw insects argh.

Was super tiring but in the end, I guess it felt satisfying. From what was seen to be seriously unacceptable living conditions, it turned out quite good. Didn't manage to finish the whole house though. We could but eh, we ran out of stamina. Painting the ceiling is super tiring. My neck, arms and back are dying. The old layer of paint would also fall off. Should have scrapped it off before painting it hmm. Going to continue tomorrow and hopefully finish everything.

Felt quite sorry for the two elderly brothers living there. Both are mentally impaired, with the elder one impaired to a small extent. Heard that they have been receving support for 21 years and their mother passed away 3 years ago. Really can't blame them for being in a state like this. Although I really feel that this would not help much, after all the house would become dirty again and this is all but a short-term solution. But I guess making them satisified is all worth it?

6.8 magnitude earthquake in Indonesia. No tsunami potential or any reported damage. Another

It Begins
Sunday 12 June 2011

Extreme Makeover will commence tomorrow!
Although other groups have already started I guess.
I wonder what will happen during the whole of next week?
I'm prepared to be surprised by what He is going to show me.

Apparently, a total lunar eclipse will happen next week on June the 16th at 1:24am.
Whoa super excited to see a lunar eclipse!
Will probably be my first time seeing one.
If the 'super moon' was epic, I wonder how much more epic a total lunar eclipse will be?

The 'Coldplay' Feeling
Friday 10 June 2011

Coldplay released a new song!
It's called 'Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall'!
Although the music style is a little bit different from what they usually do,
it still retains that 'Coldplay' feel that other Coldplay songs induce heh.
Especially like this part of the song,
'And we saw oh this light, I swear you emerge blinking into to tell me it's alright'.
To me, Coldplay songs induce emotion and power, one such example is the guitar riff in the instrumental part in Fix You. That was just pure epic-ness.
The lyrics in Coldplay song are somewhat interesting too, in the sense you have to interpret the meaning, much like literature.
Not like most new songs nowadays that to me sound rubbish.

Woot We the Kings also released a new clip of their new single today!
Why are so many bands releasing new songs? So cool!

Didn't study in the afternoon today but at night.
Seems a little bit different but I seem to accomplish more work at night?!

Teen in China sells kidney to buy iPad 2.
I wonder if it's really worth it to sell part of your body for material possessions. You could save up to buy an iPad but you can't possibly get back part of your body...unless your kidney can regenerate. Speaking of which, I'm not sure which body part in humans can regenerate. I think it's the liver?

Spirtually Dry?
Wednesday 8 June 2011

Andy sent me a text yesterday about how there are spiritual attacks around and I tend to agree to this.
I have seen my fair share of these attacks and I think I'm one of the victim.
The transition from XD2 to ODJ is much like mugging intensely for A levels and then finally relaxing when the A levels are over.
My QT feels does not feel rather extreme anymore hmm...I guess I should start another reading plan yeah. I think James is a good start.

Felt a sense of accomplishment when I successfully put new shoelace through my hoodies.
Had to replace the laces because i forgot to 'cauterise' the laces and they got destroyed when they got in the washing machine.
I wonder if the word 'cauterise' can be applied to this context hmm.
It was difficult the first try! Spent like 1 hour doing it.
I will never take the lace for granted again!

3 more weeks,
time to get it on!

Extreme Makeover: Love Beyond Edition
Saturday 4 June 2011

No DI today, or rather for the whole of June but instead we have Love Beyond!
Went for some briefing today and had an insight of the main stuff we're going to do.
To be honest, looking at the very worn down places and thinking of the painting and cleaning to makes me dislike doing it. But of course, we have to step out of our comfort zones and go for it.
Can I step out of this comfort zone? I have stepped out of many comfort zones before but this is not really one of them. I don't even clean or paint my house so this is one breakthrough.

Felt weird to leave WCRC early (around 4pm) which is not usually the case of a normal Saturday. Usually it would be 6-7pm. Then there's dinner which would bring it to 8. If there's monodeal involved it could see the time going to 10 or 11.

Came to realise that time is not really on my side now. Three weeks are left for part two of the mid year exams. This would be shortened to only 2 weeks. With the NS checkup and Love Beyond taking up one week. Have to mug and not procrastinate!

ASM!
Friday 3 June 2011

2nd June
Arts Science Museum!
Never have been there before.
I did pass by the museum once before while riding through CBD area but at that time I did not know it was the museum.
Went with 10s20'10 but I was really late cause Mr Tai ended the remedial late..really late.
What have I learnt from this museum trip? Not much really.
I can't remember the guy's name. I only know it rhymes with Darlie (the toothpaste).
His artistic style is really weird and outlandish, it does not go with the conventional way of thinking. If I remember right, the guide said he has a fascination of the beauty of the female body, which explains most of the art pieces there.

Adam and Eve! Before the first sin was created.

Saw many many religious art pieces too. Really interesting.

Okay, the way I took the photo didn't really portray this art piece really well.
It's a bunch of furniture placed on an extremely steep curved slope.

Highlight: Bob/Yixuan bought the wrong coffee which was really really bitter. How bitter? It took 10 packets of Equal (supposedly the equivalent of 10 teaspoons of suger), 3 packets of brown sugar and 1 packet of white sugar to make it 'acceptable' coffee.

The main highlight of the day wasn't so much of the museum visit, but rather hanging out with 10s20'10. Kinda brings back the good old (ok not really old since its only 1 year) times and nostalgia. Went around Orchard after that and I saw many clothes which look pretty dope. Unfortunately, cash is not what I have. Saw some Vans shoes too which surprised me cause I thought they were expensive (but they are not!).

I learnt another thing today. I noticed alot of bags, including my new one have this '2 pin plug socket' on the outside of the bag. I didn't what it's for. Aesthetics? Or for you to plug in your power o.o? But I found out it's actually for you to put your carabiner . What a relevation!

Almost ate Marche today. Marche to me is a really nice place. Honestly. However, the prices of the food there is unbelievable. The price of the food can buy you 2 proper meals elsewhere =\ Perhaps maybe only after getting a job can you eat at Marche. Settled for some nice lasagne for only $4. Walked around alot (some window shopping too) before going back at 10pm.

What a day, I don't regret at all!
