Kairos Ubin Stayover!
Thursday 29 December 2011

22 December, Thursday

My posts are late and not in chronological order heh.
This is the second time I'm going to a chalet and also the second time I'm visiting Ubin again.
However, this time Ubin seems to be a little.....empty compared to the last time I been there. Maybe it's just my memory playing tricks on me or it's just because the whole secondary three cohort was there. Heard from some of the residents there that some of the people who were staying in Ubin decided to move to the city.

It's really nice to be in touch with nature again and also be in the company of Kairos + Rhema and few new people as well! Not used to cycling slowly (unless I'm super tired and can't take it anymore) but it's nice to slow down once in awhile and cycle around Ubin, carefully avoiding potholes and mud puddles. Unfortuantely, my bike broke down though. A case of a horribly off tuned rear deraileur that went into the spokes of the rim rendering it broken. Got to thank Le Fa for helping me scooter my bike back to the shop (he says he has longer legs so it's easier for him). Thanks!

Played a card game called Citadels and OMO I NEVER KNEW A CARD GAME COULD BE THIS FUN. This just owns Monopoly Deal or Uno hands down!! There's also this game called Bang! which comes in a pretty cool bullet case but I got addicted to Citadels. Heard it's also a great game with many expansions. Cool!

Went trail cycling after that. It has been a very long time since I cycled a trail because of A levels. Not sure if the trail has a name or I just forgot but the difficulty level is comparable to that of T15. After some uphills we were rewarded with an amazing sight that is this lagoon:

The pictures don't really justify the lagoon very well. The amazing thing about the lagoon is that the colour of the water is quite strange. Strange yet beautiful. Tried my best to recreate the colour in photoshop but I think it's not accurate enough.

There were accidents but thank God they were not major. There was one crash where two bikes got stuck together and amazingly the riders were not harmed!

We all later had some fun after the trail drifting around in some empty space. Good times good times. It reminds me of the time in secondary two where Me Justin and Zhi went around drifting on our bikes. Can't really do it now cause it's so expensive to ruin my $100 tyres =\

Soon it was dinner and thank God again that we were able to find a shop that is still open. Apparently the other shops closed early. Reason? According to them, there's really no one to sell food to after dark. Dinner was quite uncomfortable cause the dogs kept coming close to us sniffing our food. Comfort zone invasion!

It's a good thing I brought lights and that I also asked Zhi to bring lights too. Ubin is REALLY dark after the sun sets and it is indeed dangerous to ride without any lights at all. Still, the night ride is quite enjoyable and fun! Couldn't say the same if I were to be alone however...

Overall the trip was enjoyable and I wouldn't mind going again!

You Could Even Say It Glows!
Saturday 24 December 2011

On the 24th of December, we gathered today in Honor Room for YCESIG!
Totally forgotten about the gift exchange and had to set off early for an emergency gift buying.
Settled for a jar (apparently not just a jar but a PREMIUM jar according to the label) of Sticky sweets. First time buying a jar of Sticky and it's not for me heh. Who doesn't like Sticky sweets?

Got to thank the organisers for the work they put in to make this possible. Could imagine all the hard work to plan for this event. Had a great time of fun and games and learnt about the meaning of Christmas. Cleared the misconception that Christmas was the birthday of Christ but it is actually the day where we remember the birth of Christ.

Will not forget the epic moments that happened like the enthusiasm Kairos showed when doing the 'forfeits' (our re-mixed version of Baby made another comeback!), the ridiculously oversized fishballs, the overused Skyrim 'I used to ____ then I took an arrow to the knee' jokes (which are still funny heh) and the epic unwrapping of Matthew's present!

And finally we learnt the meaning of YCESIG which is us. We are the light of the world!
Matthew 5:14

Saw these in Korea and my first thought was 'wow you could really say it glows!' and how it would made an apt gift. Sadly, I could only get enough for my own cell and not for the whole of Kairos =[. These crosses are literally light givers!

Saturday 3 December 2011

Went to HOP this Wednesday and it definitely felt great. I have to get over my fear of prayer meetings and remind myself not to have a performance-based faith...I keep having this mindset that I'm inferior but I know that's just the work of the devil . It's not easy but I hope it gets better over time...

Resumed my so called guitar lessons with Andy after HOP that day since my lessons were postponed due to the A levels. Was learning the song 'Till I See You' and it felt like I'm relearning how to play the guitar in a way cause I have to learn how to play 'orderly' and not haphazardly like I do with other songs where my strumming patterns are never the same heh. Really difficult to play more than one hour on the guitar since I haven't touched it for a very long time and my 'armor' on my fingers are but no more. On the spiritual side, I have to define for myself what worship is to be able to tell others what it means.

-

Today's service was more about how to refuel our spiritual lives. Message was great especially for me cause I fear that my spiritual life would be low or empty during my time in NS. I can sense the difficuly due to peer pressure and all.

Sigh leaving for Korea on the 10-18th December and I don't think I will be able to enjoy this trip at all, since I'm thinking of DI's LOL camp more nowadays. Given a choice, I would opt to go for the camp instead which others may find foolish. Well, it IS my fault in a way for remembering at the last minute the date for the camp just after the trip has been booked. As the days to the camp draw nearer, I can't help feeling more 'argh'. Well at least I will still be able to look forward to Kairo's Ubin Trip! WOO!
