EM: Day One
Monday, 13 June 2011
To start off, I was definitely surprised. Then again, when I heard this was the worst house we have been assigned to, it's not that bad after all. Better to start off with the extreme then have it easy later heh.
Met up at SAC in the early morning to help transport equipment. When we were outside the house we have been assigned to, we could smell an unpleasant odour (well come to think of it, can an odour be pleasant?). It smells like...cat litter. Got a shock when I saw the house, it was really dark and really filthly. To rate it on a scale out of 10 relative to the state of a classroom, i would rate it negative two.
Before entering we started off with prayer and off we go. Moving the furniture out and armed with newspapers and the all-powerful insecticide, exterminating any insect life-form we saw. Felt so gay when our group of guys were shouting when we saw insects argh.
Was super tiring but in the end, I guess it felt satisfying. From what was seen to be seriously unacceptable living conditions, it turned out quite good. Didn't manage to finish the whole house though. We could but eh, we ran out of stamina. Painting the ceiling is super tiring. My neck, arms and back are dying. The old layer of paint would also fall off. Should have scrapped it off before painting it hmm. Going to continue tomorrow and hopefully finish everything.
Felt quite sorry for the two elderly brothers living there. Both are mentally impaired, with the elder one impaired to a small extent. Heard that they have been receving support for 21 years and their mother passed away 3 years ago. Really can't blame them for being in a state like this. Although I really feel that this would not help much, after all the house would become dirty again and this is all but a short-term solution. But I guess making them satisified is all worth it?
GP snippet6.8 magnitude earthquake in Indonesia. No tsunami potential or any reported damage. Another
earthquake happening in the course of a few months. What could this mean?
When there's nowhere else to run, is there room for one more son?
