Just came back from field camp and on the first night I witnessed yet another wonderful sight. Even if I had a camera it wouldn't be able to capture the fullness of it heh. We were doing our outfielding cooking at night. Didn't bring anything to cook cause I was unprepared and I thought meh it was only a 2 day 1 night outfield camp. I never thought I would dislike combat rations. I mean during BMT we all found it really nice but during the course of my recent field camp when I smelt the combat ration I found it rather repulsive. Anyway on to the amazing sight that I witness yet again in nature.
There was a full moon and it was as big as the sun, illuminating the field for us with it's bright glow. Campfires (or should I say cooking spits) lit up everywhere and the smell of instant noodles and canned meat filled the air. Platoon mates talking about the most random things while cooking together. Then someone nearby said "Hey guys look in the trees!". I turned and saw that the forest had many yellow specks in them that flicker on and off and honestly the forest looked like it had christmas lights on them. Fireflies! The last time I saw them was during my driving phase and sadly I only saw one. This time they practically filled the whole forest and gave us quite a dazzling view. The full moon, the campfires and the fireflies in the forests. It was truly amazing. But then the moment got ruined as we were called to the next item on the schedule. How I wish I was not witnessing this in the military. I could really look at it all night. Hm I wonder where else in Singapore that one can find fireflies and it's not in some restricted area.
So now I have day off from Thursday to Sunday. Sadly, our OC warned us to mentally prepare ourselves for burnt weekends due to this. Going to make good use of this time off heh. Fixed my bike (at last) and it was seriously tiring to cycle with the bike stuck at 8th gear. Considering to wash my bike as the mud and dust is starting to get to me thanks to army and the washing of tanks they make us do on a regular basis. More to come with outfield training.
