D.I.VINE CAMP!
Monday, 23 December 2013
This year's camp has been really great. Not because of the fun, the games, the people or the food (the food is really great though haha) but because of how God has moved in this camp. This sounds cliche but it's true. I believe that the prayers that we prayed during the many prayer meetings that we had prior to the camp have been answered.
This year's camp has been really different for me as compared to the previous camps that I have attended. The sessions have left such a great impact on me that after the session has ended it has put me in quite a meditative state that I wasn't quite looking forward to the games as I would have liked and instead was wanting more sessions. It was really encouraging to see so many people responding to the altar call, and for me when I was playing guitar for worship, to see some of our new friends lifting up their hands in praise and mouthing lyrics (or maybe prayers?). Also to see people accepting Christ right then and there (Lee Yi and Faliq) and have their hearts so shaken and moved by the sessions.
Was really exhausted for this year's camp as well. Made
the mistake of drinking milk tea on the first night during zone time and
I became an insomniac for that night. Managed to only fall asleep
sometime around 4:30am after I decided to plug in my earphones and
listen to music. Created a sleep debt for myself that has taken a toll
on me for the duration of the camp. Why am I so sensitive to caffeine
lol.
Jia Wei and I wanted to do something quite special in this camp but alas that plan didn't work. We wanted to write cards of encouragement for everyone (something like the midnight jelly bean club in XFactor) but there wasn't much time for us to do so. Partly because we are both group leaders and briefings can end quite late and mostly because Jia Wei has to do alot (understatement) of stuff for IMAGINE team late into the night. Ended up writing to only a handful of people. The massive amount of cards we bought got underutilised heh.
Became an assistant group leader again this year as well and I wonder if I actually did a good job at all for this role. Sigh sometimes I hate my introversion as it prevents me from accomplishing things that I would want to do. Don't think I have this leader thing working out for me.
The hype for this camp may be over but the work that God has done in each and every one of our hearts will continue on. It's up to us to let this work continue though. As for me, I'm finding myself, or rather trying to live life for the Kingdom (adopt more of the Kingdom mentality) and bearing fruits that would last. And for that to happen, we have to abide in Him.
EDIT: wow much procrastination. this was stuck as a draft for a week.

One week after D.I.VINE camp, instead of gathering together to have a normal DI Encounter we instead went out to the region of Jurong East to spread some jam! (literally). So we spent some time in Honor Room writing up the cards and preparing the massive amount of jam bottles. I chose to write cause well I prefer writing and I don't think I can tie ribbons that well.
As always, every time we move out to impact communities I find myself learning and growing alot. Apparently I don't have a problem with approaching strangers and talking with them now anymore thanks to the experience I got from the many door to door visits WAC and DI have organized. It's always nice to feel Spirit led and just let God take control. Lots of interesting things to note on that day like how some people actually don't want free jam and how some people don't celebrate Christmas.
I met my BMT buddy together with his friends and was surprised that we recognized each other especially when we grew our hair back. They wanted to give back the jams they got because they don't eat bread and jam and felt that it would be a waste for the jams to be given to them.
Justin and Jeremy were quite sad because they had a hard time trying to approach people in which they would be really quick to say no and refuse before even knowing what we are trying to do. Perhaps they are tall and scary looking? Justin said I have a higher chance heh(probably only one advantage of being short huh). One feedback we had was that it would have been a better idea to group guys and girls together. Through observation, it seems that girls have it better when it comes to doing this type of stuff.
All in all we distributed 540 bottles of jam and blessings in the Jurong East region. Seeds have been planted in a way and here's hoping that from there it would grow. Hope there's more of such movements to come heh.

Had the annual Christmas service today. Didn't quite like the skit though. It was preaching more of the gospel of prosperity I guess. (To quote: Christmas is the season of miracles) On a side note, woohoo Mr Mugen came to the service!

Serving With Love (II)
Tuesday, 10 December 2013
Where's my ORD post LOL.
Anyway, yesterday we had another 'Serving with Love' movement but this time together with the main church. This time it's for the Christmas season and apart from giving out gift packs for these families we invite them also to our Christmas service as well!
We don't have the full strength of DI and we are split up into smaller groups of three. Hence each of us had to knock on more doors on each level. My experience this time is much different from the first. I had much more confidence and just let God move in me in ways I've never would have believed heh. To be honest, on the first time I was secretly hoping that no one would answer the door when I knocked on them. (which isn't a good thing of course).
I got grouped with Yue Mun and Jia Wei and we met really interesting people this time round! We met a Mr. Mugen (or was it Morgen) who happily accepted our gift pack and was interested in our Christmas service to which he told us he WILL see us there!
We also met a Mr. Raymond who is also a Christian but his current church is far away from his home and he is interested to just come down to WAC weekly with his children which is nearer and he also said he would be coming to the Christmas service!
Then there's also an English speaking elder who can't speak dialects (really rare nowadays if you think about it ) who said she picked up English because of her children but her husband can speak dialects. She was happy to receive the gift and indeed went on to chat with us for quite awhile. She couldn't believe I just finished my NS. (compliment muaha)
I also went and communicated with a Chinese speaking family. (Whoa what) Jia Wei was currently engaged with another Chinese speaking family and couldn't possibly come and help me. (We had made an agreement that Jia Wei would handle the Chinese heh). So I just tried my best to tell them about what we are doing and I was amazed that I could actually do it. Turns out my Chinese isn't that bad afterall eh.
In the end, I received more than I gave and I was glad I helped out with the food distribution. I didn't want to initially but thankfully I did in the end. Hope I get to see the people that were interested to come for the Christmas service later this month!
